South Sound Longbeards Home Page
Welcome to South Sound Longbeards' premier website on Washington's
wild turkey. South Sound Longbeards is an active chapter of
the NWTF located in the Tacoma area. Most of us are turkey hunters
and love the outdoors. We are big into promoting the outdoors,
especially introducing kids to the possibilities of the outdoors
as is evident in our yearly JAKES and WITO events. Every year
we hold a Super Fund Raising banquet that
we is without a doubt, one of the best in the state. Our live
auctions are engaging, and our prizes top of the line! Not to
mention the great food. .
At the various sportsman shows we attend, we field a lot of
turkey question - Where are they? How do you cook them? How
do you hunt them? Which turkey calls do you use? Do you use
or do you HAVE to use decoys? South Sound Longbeards has gathered
information from top hunters around the world to help with these
questions, and more. Have a look around.
Washington has great populations of Rios, Merriam's, and here's
the kicker, even Easterns. That's right, in one state, hunters
willing to pay for the extra tags can have a shot at three of
the four subspecies that make up the Grand Slam of turkey hunting.
Best of all, over-the-counter
licenses can be had for each subspecies making it easy to make
plans, show up, and go hunting! Find out where these birds are
located, how many are harvested, and which counties harvests
the most birds.
We offer tantalizing recipes on how to cook our favorite bird
from turkey fingers to wild rice stuffed. If you are unable
to find that favorite recipe or would like to add to our growing
cookbooks - just drop us an email and we will do what we can
to accommodate you.
Want to find out what other hunters are doing in the state of
Washington? Stop by our forum, and post with other hunters through
out Washington. You can read as many of the posts as you wish,
but in order to post or reply you must register - which is not
only easy but free!
Enjoy!

What has the NWTF done for Washington?
Administered jointly by the NWTF, its state chapters and
state wildlife agencies, the Wild Turkey Super Fund is used for
projects that support the conservation of the wild turkey and
preservation of the hunting tradition. Nationally, NWTF chapters
and cooperating partners have raised and spent over $175 million
dollars for wild turkey conservation. Since 1985 over $420,576
has been raised and spent by Washington chapters on projects
within the state. More than $38,074 has been spent in 2003
alone. A sampling of these projects can be found on our
Hunters Heritage Banquet page as it
is the NWTF's main source of fundraising.
