Turkey Tips - Fall, Calling Flocks
Along with using your woodsman's abilities to get close to turkeys, it is also possible to call entire flocks. Should you get an answer from a group of birds, the best tactic is to pour it on. Long series of yelps, sometimes described as lost yelps, work well, and it isn't a bad idea to blend some kee-kee-runs. Once you begin to get consistent answers or if it seems birds are moving in your direction, it is virtually impossible to call too much. Let the flock know just how anxious you are to have company, and if the lay of the land or distance from the flock permits, close ground much the same way you would when you hear a distant gobble in the spring. Flocks are more likely to move your way when you are calling along their intended route, but too often, I've seen them change directions to check out lonesome calling too often for it to be pure accident.
