Dear Ira,
Thank you for contacting the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
regarding the legality of the Gobbler Guillotine tip for Turkey hunting.
I contacted the upland Game Manager with this question, and he said
that this Guillotine is legal, and can be used to hunt Turkey. Thank
you for your question, we both learned something in regards to the
Gobbler Guillotine today.
If you have and questions or comments, please contact the Wildlife
Program at 360-902-2515.
Sincerely,
Wildlife Program Customer Service

Q: Are the hunting tips called Guillotine designed for use on Turkeys
legal in the state of Washington. There seems to be a questions as to
their meeting the legal discription in our current regulations. Your
assistance and input is appreciated.........Ira Callahan

The response I got from them on expandable was they see them as illegal to use on archery tackle... period.
I think we need to get together as a group and re-define some of those statutes?
I may not agree with changing the regs for a specified archery tag but when a season is a general weapons hunt then I think you should be sable to use a broader expanse of technologies. the sticking point when it comes to the hunting points is they want a "No- Barb" on the tip. Well wouldn't you rather the arrow hang up in an animal if it was to do so to create hopefully a quicker kill? I am fairly new to archery so if any of you have more insight on this...I am always open to advice.

That's strange, because I heard that the expandable were legal for turkey - but that was years ago... Anyhow, if anyone gets an email response from WDFW - this would be the place to post it - that way anyone wanting to have some sort of defence can print it out.

| Expandable means that they have a reduced surface area until blades are deployed at impact, Gobbler Guillotines are all the way extended at all times, No barb means that the rearward portion of the blade has no greater than 90 degree angle towards the tip of the arrow FROM the shaft. If you look at a G.G. the blade angles AWAY from the shaft towards the tip obviously not a barb. The only problem with the head is if it works too good they probably will find some way to make it illegal, but how many of us archery nuts are actually getting turkeys with a bow? I use the same set-up I use for all game because that is what I practise with, Trad bow, cedar arrows and wensel woodsman, I still haven't missed a turkey (haven't shot at one either) Oh Well, maybe this fall.
