Turkey Tips - The Washington Slam

Washington is one of the only states in the country where hunters can harvest three different sub-species of turkey, all which have been successfully introduced to the state since 1984. The Merriam's subspecies are in Stevens, Pend Oreille, Ferry, Klickitat, Yakima, Kittitas, Chelan, and Okanogan counties; Rio Grande turkeys are in Lincoln County and southeastern Washington; and the eastern subspecies is in southwest Washington.

This is a unique situation, and with it comes the ability to harvest 3 out of the 4 subspecies required to get your "grand slam".  By getting each of the three subspecies here in Washington (eastern, rio grande, merriam), you achieve a Washington grand slam or Washington mini slam.  If you register your birds your will receive a grand slam pin.  There are two ways to get one - Harvest all three species in one season (for the hard pin), or get one of each species throughout the years (for the less hard pin).  Click the link below to print out the registration form (Word document) and Mail a $5 filing fee to: WA State Chapter of NWTF, 8004 N Milton Ct. Spokane, WA 99208 (Filing fee will cover up to 3 records for one individual)
