Turkey Tips - Using Decoys
The Tacoma,
Washington South Sound Longbeards
Chapter held its third annual JAKES
Day in August. For the second year,
the event was co-sponsored by the
Paul
Bunyan Outdoorsman and Shooting Club.
The Club donates its entire facility
for the day to the JAKES event, and
provides instructors to supplement
the Chapter volunteers. This year,
Paul Bunyan Club instructors taught
gun safety and helped with some
practice shots on the shotgun and
.22 ranges. They also taught a wild
life recognition course focusing on
the types of wildlife to be found
throughout Washington State.
A Chapter "mountain man",
Robin Hartsell, gave
demonstrations
in both percussion cap and flintlock
muzzle loaders, and in lead bullet
making – then took the kids
through their paces in throwing a
knife and a tomahawk, just like the
mountain men of olden days gone by.
The event was, as always, free to all kids in the community under the age of 18 and included a barbecue, fun pack, and t-shirt for all attendees.
